IASA Get Fit
IASA GET FIT is a comprehensive wellness program modeled after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) The Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model program. IASA GET FIT is inclusive of physical education and physical activity, intramural sports, nutrition, health education, and solicits community involvement and family engagement throughout the process.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “schools play a critical role in promoting the health and safety of young people and helping them establish lifelong healthy behavior patterns.”(1) The school environment becomes a critical and advantageous place for the implementation of a physical education and coordinated health program. The primary focus of the program is the student body at IASA but the success of the program is contingent upon the involvement and support of the families of the students, staff and the community at large.
